PANDEMIC SUNSET
“Pandemic Sunset” is the story of how I got over in 2020 - by getting to the ocean and watching the sun set. The old shoes, caked in detritus collected from NYC streets, have laces that become the sun, a blazing fireball of color. Bits of broken glass drip from the souls like drops of water from the shore. At the point where fire and water appear to meet, despair and grief evolve into a loving sadness. Materials either discarded or found from all over NYC are used to engage the sense of connection we have with each other, our shared environment and the culture we all shape. The materials and form suggest that beauty can be found in small pieces (bits of shiny broken glass collected in the gutter) and grand visions (the sun setting over the ocean) and is all around us, available to help us heal.
